Nanela — Privacy Policy

Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how the Nanela iOS application ("Nanela", "the App") developed by Yuliia Kulakova ("the Developer") handles your information. Nanela is a private record of a pregnancy and of a baby's first year. It was built around one principle: what you write down stays yours. There is no Nanela account, no Nanela server, no advertising and no third-party trackers or analytics.

Nanela is not a medical device. It records what you tell it and quotes official guidance with a source. It does not diagnose, does not give verdicts, and never replaces your midwife or doctor.

1. What the App holds

Nanela stores the information you choose to enter. Depending on which parts of the App you use, this may include:

Your dates: due date and how it was worked out — last period, a dating scan, or an embryo transfer date — and how many babies you are expecting.
Pregnancy records: contractions you time, movements you count, weight, blood pressure and pulse, how you have been feeling, medicines and supplements you take, appointments, and free-form notes.
Baby records: the name, birth date and sex you enter, feeds (side, minutes, expressed or bottle amounts), sleep, nappies, weight, length and head circumference, foods already tried, appointments, medicines and notes.
A care contact — a name and a phone number, if you choose to save one, so it is one tap away when you need it.
App preferences such as the theme, the units and how weeks are counted.

Important: this is entered by you, for you. The Developer does not receive it, cannot read it, and operates no server that stores it.

Nanela does not collect: your name or email address, your location, your contacts, your photos, advertising identifiers, or any usage analytics. Nanela does not read from or write to Apple Health.

2. Consent for health data

Pregnancy and baby records are health data. They count as a special category of personal data under Article 9 of the GDPR, and as consumer health data under Washington State's My Health My Data Act and similar laws.

Because of that, Nanela asks for your explicit consent before it records anything, and explains in plain language what that means. You can withdraw consent at any time in Settings without losing what you have already written. If this Policy changes in a way that affects what you agreed to, Nanela will ask for your consent again rather than assume it.

3. How your information is used

Your information is used only to provide the features of the App on your device:

To show your own records, your week, and the history you have built up.
To schedule local notifications for reminders you set — appointments, medicines, and the note that a new week has started.
To produce a page you can take to an appointment. Nothing on that page is worked out by Nanela: every entry is listed as you made it, with no averages and no verdicts.
To show Home Screen widgets and, while you are timing contractions, a Live Activity on your Lock Screen.

Your information is never used for advertising, profiling, marketing or model training, and is never sold or rented.

4. Where your data is stored

Nanela stores your records on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework, inside the App's private container, protected by iOS sandboxing and device encryption. Your device passcode, Face ID or Touch ID, together with iOS encryption, protect that data at rest.

Because there is no account and no Developer server, there is no central database of users that could be breached.

5. iCloud sync

iCloud sync is off by default. If you turn it on in Settings, your records are mirrored to your own private iCloud database using Apple's CloudKit, under your Apple Account. To be precise about what that means:

Sync uses your iCloud, not a server operated by the Developer.
Data in the CloudKit private database is accessible only to you. The Developer has no access to it and cannot read, export or recover it.
Fields that carry the most sensitive detail — names, notes, doses, measurements, blood pressure, the times you recorded movements, and the care contact — are additionally marked for CloudKit encryption.
Apple processes this data as part of providing iCloud, under Apple's Privacy Policy.
Turn sync off, and your records stay on that device only.

6. Device permissions

Nanela asks for one permission, and only when you set something that needs it:

Notifications — to deliver the reminders you create for appointments and medicines, and the quiet note when a new week begins. Every notification is scheduled and delivered locally by iOS. There is no push server, and no notification content ever leaves your device.

Nanela does not ask for the camera, the photo library, the microphone, your location, your contacts, or Apple Health. You may revoke notification permission at any time in iOS Settings; the rest of the App continues to work.

7. Widgets and Live Activities

The Home Screen widget reads a small snapshot of your current week from a private App Group container on your own device, so it can draw without launching the App. While you are timing contractions, a Live Activity shows the running count on the Lock Screen. Both stay on your device.

8. Third-party services

Nanela contains no third-party SDKs — no analytics, no advertising, no attribution, no crash reporting, no social networks. The App makes no network requests to any server operated by the Developer — there is no such server. The network is used only by Apple's own services listed below, and when you tap a link to this website.

The only external services involved are Apple's:

Apple iCloud / CloudKit — optional sync within your own Apple Account (see section 5).
Apple App Store / StoreKit — subscriptions. Payment is handled by Apple; the Developer never sees your payment details and receives only an anonymous confirmation of whether a subscription is active.

Some screens link to official guidance published by health services, such as the NHS. Following such a link opens your browser and is a visit to that organisation's website, governed by their privacy policy, not this one.

9. Sharing and disclosure

The Developer does not share, sell, rent or disclose your information, because the Developer does not have it.

Information leaves your device only when you deliberately share it — for example by producing the page for an appointment and sending, printing or showing it. In that case you choose the recipient and the channel.

10. Your rights and control

Access — everything Nanela holds is visible inside the App. There is no hidden copy.
Correction — every entry can be edited or deleted at any time.
Withdrawal of consent — at any time in Settings, without losing your records.
Erasure — Settings has a single step that erases everything. If sync is on, that also removes the copy from your iCloud.
Portability — you can produce a PDF of your records and keep or send it yourself.

Because the Developer holds no copy of your data, a request to the Developer to access or erase it cannot be fulfilled — you already hold the only copies, on your device and, if you turned sync on, in your own iCloud.

11. Data retention

Records are kept until you delete them. Nanela does not expire or archive them on its own, and the Developer retains nothing.

Deleting the App removes what is stored on the device. Anything already mirrored to your iCloud stays in your iCloud until you erase it — so if you want everything gone, erase it from Settings before deleting the App.

12. Children's privacy

Nanela is written for pregnant women and new parents and is not directed at children. The App does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children, because it does not collect information at all.

13. International users (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA, My Health My Data)

Nanela is available worldwide. Since the App does not collect, transmit or process personal data on any Developer-controlled server:

There is no controller-held personal data to access, rectify, port or erase by request — you exercise those rights directly in the App.
The Developer carries out no international transfer of your data.
No personal information is "sold" or "shared" as those terms are defined by the CCPA/CPRA, and no consumer health data is sold as defined by the My Health My Data Act.
No cookie or consent banner is required, because no tracking or profiling takes place.
Where you enable iCloud sync, Apple provides that service under its own terms and privacy policy.

If you are in the EU or the UK, you also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.

14. Changes to this Policy

If this Policy changes, the updated version is published at this address with a new "Last updated" date. If a change affects what you consented to, Nanela asks for your consent again inside the App.
